Welcome Readers!

The University of Birmingham Women in Medicine Society (#WIM) is incredibly proud to start this blog. We founded WIM with the aim of celebrating and recognising female achievement in medicine, inspiring and enabling other women to reach high career goals within healthcare sectors, and to understand more about women’s health. With this blog we wanted to create an opportunity in which women and non-binary have a space to talk about their experiences and opinions. To have access to professional development opportunities as well as spreading awareness for the health of women in society.

We want to hear anything you have to say!

The blog posts can be opinion/topical pieces, research reviews, questions to ask WIM and more! You can even respond to articles written previously if you have thought of a different angle to approach the topic. These posts can be kept anonymous if you would rather, or we can include your name as the author – it is completely up to you.

The point is to make this blog a safe and friendly space where women and non-binary can talk about themselves professionally and medically.

We will be posting alongside your submissions with topical blog posts, advice, and questions you might want to answer in the comments sections.

Certificates will be issued to medical students who have blog posts published, this site is affiliated with the Medical Women’s Federation which will be included in the certificate (something to add to the portfolio!). There will be different certificates issued based on how many times you have an article published because at WIM we appreciate your time, and we want to celebrate how hard you work!

To submit a blog post please email your article (attached via a word or google doc) to uobwims@gmail.com with the Subject Heading: Blog Post and in the email include your name, your year of study, the university you attend, your preferred pronoun and whether you wish to be anonymous.

Once again #WELCOME, enjoy the content and please get in contact!

Love

UoB WIM (Women in Medicine Society)
